Village of Coal City and Chamber celebrate downtown renovations

COAL CITY – The Village of Coal City and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry partnered to celebrate the new renovation of Broadway Street in downtown Coal City Sept. 18.

The Village hosted a community-wide celebration that Saturday – Fall Fest. The event included family-orientated activities including a car show, children’s games, 5K, music, food, and more. To kick things off the Village and Chamber hosted a State of the Village Address with Mayor Terry Halliday at Campbell Memorial Park.

The State of the Village Address was sponsored by Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Coal City Bank and Chamlin & Associates. The address was followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony across Broadway.

“Welcome, it has been a few years since we last convened in order to discuss the State of the Village of Coal City. Within that time, the Village has successfully completed a large investment in the future of the community and renewed the core business district to create a place to gather and attract additional investment,” Halliday said during his address.

”There are three main components that I intend to review this afternoon – Investment, Infrastructure, and people.  Each of these factors are important, but the ability of our community to leverage all of them simultaneously creates the value, which results in the positive change that surrounds us today,” he continued.

The Mayor continued to highlight the Village’s accomplishments and express appreciation for the Village staff, trustees, partners, and volunteers that helped reach these goals.

Following the address, the Chamber held a ribbon cutting across Broadway Street to celebrate the renovations. About 50 people attended the State of the Village Address and ribbon cutting.

“Working with the Village of Coal City and its local businesses is always a pleasure. The love this community has for its village is inspiring. We congratulate Coal City on its beautiful downtown renovations,” Chamber President & CEO Christina Van Yperen said.
