Chamber Anniversary Feature: LyondellBasell

As the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry celebrates 75 years of building, connecting and engaging our business community, we are recognizing some of our longest members who have helped us to succeed.

LyondellBasell’s Morris plant opened 53 years ago making it one of the Chamber’s most loyal members. LyondellBasell is one of the world’s largest plastics, chemicals, and refining companies.

About 400 employees and contractors work on site which covers an area of almost 700 acres. Using natural gas liquids as a feedstock, the plant manufactures ethylene, the world’s most widely-used petrochemical, which is then converted into polyethylene plastic resins. These resins serve as building blocks for countless products that provide the necessities of modern life, such as leak-proof and shatter-proof containers for industrial and household chemicals, packaging that protects our food from spoilage and contamination, and children’s toys that are safe and durable. LyondellBasell is one of the largest producers of ethylene and polyethylene in North America.

“LyondellBasell Morris Plant has a long history of providing local career opportunities and routinely engage our stakeholders to ensure we maintain operational transparency and visibility. By working closely with schools, local municipalities, and the chamber and economic development corporation, we have built a strong and steady presence within our community, which we hold very dear,” said Megan Borchers, LyondellBasell Public Relations Lead. “LyondellBasell is proud to operate in Grundy County!”

The Chamber’s years of success is due to its committed membership of hundreds of businesses across the county like LyondellBasell. Thank you LyondellBasell for your support and engagement through the years.
