Apple Butter & Shugie’s opens in larger space in downtown Morris

MORRIS – One of downtown Morris’ favorite destination shops has officially opened in a new, but familiar location.

Last month Apple Butter & Shugie’s owners Jane and Stu Kerr moved their 37-year-old novelty gift shop business just down the street to 317 N. Liberty St. in the former Front Porch gift shop.

“Apple Butter & Shugie’s has relocated to the Spurgeon’s Building where we hope to stay for years to come helping families make memories, working toward retirement one day and entering into a partnership with a fellow retailer,” Jane Kerr said in a news release.

The Spurgeon’s Building is owned by local business owner Caroline Cummings.

A Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry ribbon cutting to celebrate the new location was held June 11 with Morris Mayor Chris Brown, city officials, and Chamber Ambassadors.

“We didn’t think Apple Butter & Shugie’s could get any better—then they opened in their beautiful new space, and what was already a staple of downtown Morris has become even more of a standout favorite,” Chamber President & CEO Christina Van Yperen said.

Apple Butter & Shugie’s carries gifts for all ages, holidays and interests.

“We have a unique inventory of nothing you need, but everything you want,” Kerr said. “Shopping local is what our shopping district needs to help all of our retailers be successful.”

The store is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays in November and December from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
